Updated for 2021 kinda

hihi nice to meet you.

caos weird sisters gif

I very rarely use dw anymore, but I do stop by for events & I'm trying to get involved in fandoms a lil more, so here's a brief rundown of what I like & what I write:
  • Girls. If I'm watching/reading/consuming it there is a 89% chance that what I'm here for are the girls, usually the ones hated by the fandom at large. You have been warned,
  • Polyamory/polycules. I like the dynamic of poly relationships, I like a-typical partnerships and dynamics. I'm a bad bisexual who likes it when bi characters have threesomes and I simply will not apologise.
  • I like terrible women who do terrible things. I like villainous, poisonous fucked up love as much as the softer kind
  • Magic, scifi, witches and monsters and things that go bump in the deep dark night. I like horror and I like teeth, we love a gothic heroine in this house, even if it means watching the dumbest shows known to man, y'know?
  • Realted to the above: gimme some good catharsis at the end of the road.
  • I like sprawling meditative character studies more than I particularly like things happening. Sometimes I don't even know what a plot is tbh
  • I like my queer stories to feel authentically queer, which is probably why I don't care much for most canonical lgbtq+ couples? Big gay friend groups, getting weird with gender expression, crossdressing, talking about queer movies/media that feel resonant, gimme all the stuff that makes being queer so affirming and liberating! No cardboard queers allowed. Thinking about this post, and this one & also that one post about jessica hetch being one of the few straight actors to feel authentically gay that I simply cannot find. pick a gregg araki movie. you get it.
  • according to my ao3 one of my most common tags is oral sex. so. that, I guess
  • Myth, fairytale & religious imagery/themes/inspiration
A very brief main fandom rundown, this used to be a mile long (seriously, look at the fandoms I've written for on ao3, maniacal), so I've condensed it to the mainstays, but I will write almost anything once
  • Buffyverse
  • Vampire Diaries
  • Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
  • Greek Myth
  • DC comics. Idk man it's where I live now.
  • Marvel (more comics than mcu these days)
  • Sitcoms (community, new girl, sunny, etc.)
  • Stupid teen dramas (I wish I could get away from them, honestly)
  • The Wicked and the Divine
  • Hannibal
  • The Raven Cycle
  • 80s/90s movies
  • Lady-focused horror
I cannot stress enough how non-exhaustive this list is.

If you friend me I'll probably friend you back - just leave a comment here.

If I'm not around you can probably find me on tumblr

How did I not respond to this before? Reading your reactions to Buffy, Faith, Willow, Tara, YOU OWN MY SOUL. Just, everything, all of it. (including the reaction to the boys. And Riley -Where's that damn shovel Rosenberg?)

And it's been about a year-and-a-half for myself as well; you've summed up why I love the 'verse and these characters more eloquently than I ever managed to do. And you're one of the reasons I'm happy and content that I entered fandom now, not "back in the day" or 2008-10.

This is a pretty new thing, so you probably never saw it before.

The girls are my heart, they changed my life, and I feel so lucky to have found these people - fictional or not - who could inspire and help me so. Plus they kick ass.

Where's that damn shovel Rosenberg

I died. I mean - nope. Dead.

This? Eloquent? Nah, pure gushing.

But I'm glad your happy to be in the fandom now - and that I've contributed to that. Now's as good a time as any. Years may go by, but Buffy ain't going anywhere (thank God). I feel like if I'd have been in the fandom before I would have been so caught up in the shipper hype that I wouldn't get across the things I get to now. I've grown up so much.

I died. I mean - nope. Dead.

*dusts off hands* That was pretty much my reaction when I watched it (the one time and never again - except for the two scenes between Buffy and Spike: "Tell me you love me." Oh god break my heart now. [Bad username or site: gillo said it best in '09: <i @ livejournal.com]"But her desperate search for proof that she exists when she turns to Spike isn't just hot, it's emotionally powerful and authentic." http://gabrielleabelle.livejournal.com/160997.html?replyto=4840677

And at the time I was happy when she walked out into the sunlight - yeah I CHEERED for her. Sue me.)

It could have been a brilliant episode, but "probing psychological truth" isn't exactly on offer here. Sometimes the show does that very very well and when it doesn't? EPIC fail.

But I was watching the whole Riley blah blah blah and actually thinking that "Hand me the shovel Willow...ok any time now...where's the shovel Rosenberg?" And then buffy apologizes to him (YUCK) and I threw up my hands. There may be a picspam here. that would totally work.

Weirdly enough, the show Bones - BONES! - **SPOILERS for "THE WOMAN IN THE PHOTO" S6** -
did a much better job with the concept of "the protagonist's current depressed mental state is skewing her concept of reality".
**END SPOILERS**

Did you ever read Gabrielleabelle's parody meta of that episode?
http://gabrielleabelle.livejournal.com/160997.html
'cause you CLEARLY do not have enough to reading to fill your empty hours *LOL*

This? Eloquent? Nah, pure gushing.

1) "Eloquence" and "gushing" are not mutually exclusive, hon. It is perfectly possible to gush eloquently. 2) At the risk of sounding arrogant , I know when something is sincere, passionate, when it speaks to me AND is well-written. This is all of that. Trust me.

I feel like if I'd have been in the fandom before I would have been so caught up in the shipper hype that I wouldn't get across the things I get to now.

When I first heard the terms "shipper wars" or "Spike wars" (which I think had to do with the souled/soulless debate, I'm not sure; and I don't have a dog in that fight) my reaction was "HUH?" (And I've seen how passionate people are still, how angry about "their side".) Then there was the 2008-10 revival because of the comics but that also became very fraught and angry sometimes; a lot of people abandoned the comics in the end.

Maybe a slower, more peaceful place is a good place to be?

I just read a recap of AYW and I wanted to smash their faces. They were all, "isn't Riley's appearance so helpful? She can FINALLY start coming out of her depression" and shit. I was consumed with "NO". And the thing is, I used to enjoy their re-caps, I still like the Angel and Firefly ones, but I don't think I can read any more of the Buffy because they pissed me off so much.

And they REALLY hate Spike atm.

Ugh. Anger.

Oh, and in case you're interested :

I'll get to reading the parody meta - you won't be content until you've linked me to every corner of the fandom, will you?

And yeah, I think now is a good time to be. It's less scary.

I actually enjoy some of their recaps to be honest; for OAFA they LOVE awesome of Tara ("sassy-pants"); are hard to Spike when he's being a dick. Their DT recap tends to be a bit 'simpler" re: the alley scene; I think it's a lot more layered than they have it. but they do remind me of the fact that there is a lot wrong with the relationship, that it is unhealthy, which is what I thought first watching it. And sometimes they just remind me of what I felt about the show or what I still love about it; so I think it can be good sometimes to dip into another perspective. BUT the fact that they go with the writers' interpretation of Riley? Um, no. that's just - no. NO NO NO I couldn't stand watching Buffy being humiliated over and over in that episode (flirting openly withe Riley - the dude who cheated on her and then dumped her) being utterly clueless and incompetent and THEN apologizing? (Actually that's pretty much the way Buffy's been portrayed in the comics, but to an even more exaggerated extent.) And he doesn't even say when she's flirting "Look I'm married"? How is that not dickwad behavior? How is that even acceptable? Now like I said I did cheer a little when Buffy walked into the sunlight in the end; I didn't ship her with Spike, and I wanted her to be happier and "get better" even though I know "better" is temporary thing with depression. It's a constant up and down and I SHOULD know better. After that though I was really aware of the way they were taking it, that Buffy just needed to "pull herself up by her bootstraps. I wrote about it a little a while back in an early meta; now I'd be more far more critical of it. I know that buffy needed to be the one to end things in S6 because Spike never would be able to. He couldn't; so the view that she's a bitch because she's breaking his heart etc leaves me cold. BUT I'll be damned if I wasn't fuming at her apologizing to Riley. When I watched ITW I thought oh no you can't have meant what I think you mean; AYW just utterly confirmed that: Oh crap, that is exactly what you meant. EPIC FAIL. you won't be content until you've linked me to every corner of the fandom, will you? NOt every - but if I can clear the path for you a little bit, why not? that's what I do.

Like I said, I have enjoyed a lot of their re-caps, but this one pissed me off so much - I had no words for it.

A lot of what they say is insightful and funny and does remind me of my initial reactions to the show, but sometimes it's just "no." I feel like they missed the point entirely - then again, who's to say my view is the correct one. I'm all open for alternate interpretations but the AYW totally took the biscuit.

Oh, and the path-clearing is approved.

You are? I constantly try to concede that we all have our own interpretations and I'm more than open to new ideas - except when I know that I am right and they are wrong-wrong-wrongedy-wrong-wrong.

the path-clearing is approved

Of course!

BTW - if I did a post with an icon dump of some of the Moulin Rouge icons I made a few years back would that be of interest to you? Some of them are really lovely.
