So like I mentioned in the last post I'm working on another little poetry chapbook full of poems about dead women but this time specifically comics focused JUST so I can name it it came from the refrigerator. And I needed to throw up a little post mostly for myself to vent / dump about it as I'm writing because it's just clogging up my Tumblr and also not that interesting lol.

Hey. Do you feel depressed? Do you have writers block? Are you looking for a way to just loosen the tension in your chest and shoulders and soul in general? If you answered yes to the previous questions, you might be me. I've been feeling very stuck and bored and in need of an outlet, and after a handful of aborted starts at the end of last year I think the weight and exhaustion from editing you make yourself another is FINALLY passing and I'm ready to write some nonsense again. So let's have a free-for-all. Let's go for as long as we have steam (or, at the latest, until femfeb). Let's get real indulgent with it.

As I said in the original ficathon: This is for all those fics you've always wanted to read (or write) but just never found. Maybe the fandom is obscure or it never fit the theme of other ficathons. Maybe it's about a minor character no one loves like you do. Maybe you only thought about it a minute ago. What I'm saying is, the theme here is anything goes. Indulge yourself.

I Can't believe I forgot to talk about this here but... well, I wrote a book. Actually, I wrote two books, a book of short stories which I put together over 5 years and is still going through the editorial process to make it perfect and polished and beautiful, and a little book of pop culture inspired poems, written during a difficult stage of editing, over a 2 week period in April. And that latter book, written in a state of delirium, is already out in the world. Which is absolute MADNESS, frankly.

Death & The Maiden is a love letter to pop culture's dead girls, from Moulin Rouge to Buffy, Bojack Horseman to Batman, 16 poems for 16 dead girls, because we know those are who I tend to love best. If you're interested at all, you can buy a physical copy here, and if you do, please do say something nice on GoodReads about it!

I've been feeling unbearably SEEN since it came out, even though these are mostly impersonal poems --- they're fanworks, they're a melding of what I do here and my "real world" writing career, and it's such a weird liminal space to be in. The short story collection, when it releases, will feel like letting people look at my organs, I feel like, because those stories are so unbearbly personal and part of me, but this, in a way, is almost more exposing? It's a look at what I love, and have been doing online since I was a teenager; getting too attached to doomed girls in fiction. What a strange world.

Can you believe it's march lol what happened?

Femfeb came and also went and now it's march and I guess we all just have to get on with our lives again. I wrote some things! Which would never have happened had the dreamy and wonderful elasticella not hosted her femfeb frenzy event. I met my fair goal of 4 fics and stopped juuuuuuust shy of my fancy goal of 8, though not for lack of trying. I have some truly bizarre half-started fics in my gdocs that refused to coalesce, the bastards. Anyway, I had an absolute blast writing these and getting all up in fandom's grill again after a while away and I still have some leftover hunger pangs from it all, I suppose, so there's a distinct possibility, being as it is my famed Birth Month that I'll throw together a small ficathon sometime soon-ish (I'm debating themes in my head, because I've always wanted to throw a sitcom ficathon but also I've been having aaaaaaallllll the gossip girl feels at the tail end of this month for no apparent reason so?)

(I promised to do a ficathon for summer, and then I got busy and also sick and forgot, so here, in the dying embers of august, I'm yearning for fandom and community and sometimes it's just like. god, remember 2014? remember when we all just cried about TVD and GG and the Annie/Abed of it all and held hands and the world wasn't Actively burning before our very eyes?)

I'm late but not as late as usual, so that should count for something. Also I hummed and hawed about whether to host this on lj or dw (and discounted cross posting immediately bc I know I would just confuse myself) and settled on experimenting with dw for now, since I've never done a ficathon here before, and if it falls apart then I'll haul myself back to lj next time.
